About this trip
This is a four-day trek through the Ifugao region of the Philippines, going well beyond the rice terraces most visitors see from Banaue. You walk through mountains, forests and working rice terraces, stopping at native communities along the way.
Each night you base yourself in a different Ifugao village, which gives you a proper look at daily life and culture rather than a quick photo stop. It is a serious, guided trek rather than a leisurely wander.
Expect changing scenery throughout — terraces, rivers, waterfalls and forest paths — with the people and villages as much the point of the trip as the landscape.
What you'll do
- Trek out from Banaue into the wider Ifugao region
- Stay in four different Ifugao villages, one per night
- Walk through several distinct styles of rice terraces
- Cross mountains, forests and rivers on foot
- See waterfalls along the trekking route
- Spend time with Ifugao communities off the usual tourist path
- Described as a serious trek — expect sustained walking each day, not a gentle stroll
- You change village and base most nights, so pack light and be ready to move on
Worth it if you want authentic village immersion and genuine cultural learning with standout guides. Think twice if you're not prepared for a genuinely challenging trek with early starts.
- Guide quality is exceptional—Marvin, Jonathan, and Jody are knowledgeable, patient, and deeply passionate about Ifugao culture.
- Staying overnight in village guesthouses gives real insight into daily Ifugao life, not just scenic photo stops.
- Trek is genuinely challenging; one reviewer aged 62 needed route adjustments, so fitness level matters significantly here.
- Solo female travellers report feeling safe throughout, though this is a physically demanding trek requiring proper preparation.
