About this trip
Ten days that move through four of Peru's landscapes in one go: Pacific coast, desert, high Andes and Amazon rainforest. Domestic flights and transfers are built in, so the logistics of covering that much ground are handled for you.
The jungle stretch is the heart of it, three nights at Eco Amazonia Lodge with river trips, wildlife spotting and canopy walks. From there you head up to Rainbow Mountain and on to Machu Picchu by train, with a night in Aguas Calientes before the return south.
There is some choice built in too, with two options for exploring around Lima depending on whether you fancy desert dunes or street art and swimming with sea lions.
What you'll do
- Cruise 30 km along the river by motorboat to Eco Amazonia Lodge
- Spot caiman on oxbow lakes and climb canopy towers, with a visit to Monkey Island
- Trek to Rainbow Mountain for 360-degree views of Ausangate peak at 6,384 m
- Ride the scenic train through Urubamba canyon and explore Machu Picchu with a guide
- Choose between the Paracas-Ica-Huacachina desert circuit or Callao street art with optional sea lion swimming at Palomino Islands
- Altitude and terrain shift fast, from sea level to Rainbow Mountain's 5,020 m summit within a few days
- Guided throughout, with domestic flights, transfers and an eco lodge stay included
- Good fit if you want breadth over depth, touching coast, desert, mountains and jungle in one trip
Worth it if you want guides who genuinely know their stuff and don't mind logistical rough edges. Think twice if hotel quality matters more than adventure.
- Guides like Roland, Victor, Jaime and Martine consistently deliver knowledge, warmth and memorable moments at Machu Picchu and jungle.
- Hotels in Cusco and Agua Calientes are a coin flip: noise, poor location, humid or small rooms require immediate operator intervention.
- Lima traffic means 2-6 hour journeys for city tours and dune buggying; altitude sickness hits some travellers—clinic details should come upfront.
- Luz Lucero from Waman Adventures handles problems fast via WhatsApp, but issues arise frequently enough to need that safety net.
