About this trip
This is a fast-paced route to Everest Base Camp, flying into Lukla and trekking through rocky trails, deep gorges and glacier terrain in the shadow of the world's highest mountain.
You'll stand at Everest Base Camp itself, the staging point for Everest expeditions, and climb to Kala Patthar for sunrise over Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and a string of other giants.
Along the way there's time to take in Sherpa culture in the villages and monasteries that make up this part of the Himalaya.
What you'll do
- Fly into Lukla and trek through the Khumbu region
- Reach Everest Base Camp, the launch point for Everest expeditions
- Watch sunrise from Kala Patthar at 5500m
- See Lhotse, Cho Oyu and other 7000m and 6000m peaks
- Pass through Sherpa villages and get a feel for local culture
- Cross rocky terrain, gorges and glacier landscapes
- At 9 days this is a condensed version of the classic Everest Base Camp trek, so expect a demanding pace and limited time to acclimatise
- You'll be trekking at high altitude, up to around 5500m, so a reasonable level of fitness and some trekking experience will help
- Flights in and out of Lukla can be delayed by weather, which may affect the schedule
