About this trip
This 14-day trek takes you into the Annapurna region of northwest Nepal, walking from Nayapul through Gurung and Magar villages and up through forest and alpine terrain to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres.
The route builds gradually, giving your body time to adjust to altitude as you pass through Ghorepani and up to Poon Hill before heading deeper into the mountains. At base camp you're surrounded by a wall of peaks, including Machapuchare, Annapurna I and Annapurna South.
The way down takes you via Jhinu for a soak in the natural hot springs, before returning to Pokhara to unwind at the end of the trek.
What you'll do
- Trek through rhododendron and bamboo forests to Annapurna Base Camp
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill
- Pass through traditional Gurung and Magar villages
- Stand in the glacial basin at Annapurna Base Camp, ringed by 6,000-7,000m peaks
- Soak tired legs in the natural hot springs at Jhinu
- Explore Pokhara at trek's end
- A multi-day high-altitude trek — good fitness and some trekking experience will help
- Route is built for gradual acclimatisation, with Ghorepani and Poon Hill as staging points before the final push to base camp
- Accommodation and terrain shift from village guesthouses to more basic mountain lodges as you climb
Worth it if you value attentive guiding and stunning scenery. Think twice if you need a relaxed pace—early starts and long days demand fitness.
- Guide quality transforms the trek; Rudra Dhoj stayed close, caught a trekker mid-fall, offered constant encouragement.
- Private guide arrangements mean early finishes, pre-ordered meals at set times, no waiting around hungry.
- Early starts are non-negotiable; guide can tailor intensity but trekkers must communicate fitness level upfront.
- Scenery genuinely rivals Everest base camp; Annapurna and Dhaulagiri views justify the effort for most.
