About this trip
A short, accessible trek into the Annapurna foothills, built around one big payoff: sunrise over the Himalaya from Poon Hill at 3210m. You start with the drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a lakeside city with the mountains as a backdrop, before heading out on foot from Nayapul.
The days in between are a steady walk through forest and terraced hillside, past rhododendron blooms and waterfalls, climbing gradually into Gurung and Magar villages. It is a gentler introduction to the region than the Annapurna Base Camp or Circuit treks, without losing the scenery or the sense of climbing into real mountains.
Good for anyone who wants Annapurna's landscapes and village culture without committing to a long, demanding trek. You finish by retracing the route back through Pokhara to Kathmandu.
What you'll do
- Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along Phewa Lake
- Trek out from Nayapul through forest and terraced farmland
- Watch sunrise hit the peaks from Poon Hill at 3210m
- Pass through Gurung and Magar villages en route
- See rhododendron blooms and waterfalls along the trail
- A short trek best suited to those who want mountain views and culture without the length of Base Camp or Circuit routes
- Clearest skies and views come in spring or in October and November
Worth it if you want a short, well-organised trek with attentive guides and genuine mountain views. Think twice if you need more challenging terrain or extensive wilderness solitude.
- Guides like Pemba Sherpa and Bhakta genuinely look after you—food, accommodation, flexibility with your needs.
- Poon Hill sunrise views of Machapuchare and Annapurna range are legitimately stunning and worth the early start.
- Tea house stays are clean and comfortable; operator provides practical kit like waterproof bags and sleeping bags upfront.
- Trek is short and fairly straightforward, so not ideal if you're after a serious physical challenge or remote trekking.
