About this trip
This is the classic route to Everest Base Camp, flying into Lukla and walking up through Namche Bazaar and Tyangboche into the Solukhumbu, with Ama Dablam standing over much of the trail.
It's as much about the Khumbu itself as the summit views: Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags and mani walls line the way, and the pace gives you time to take in the culture as well as the altitude.
Expect long days on foot, thinning air, and a landscape that shifts from rhododendron forest to bare high-mountain terrain as you climb toward Kala Patthar and the base camp itself.
What you'll do
- Trek from Lukla through Namche Bazaar to Everest Base Camp
- Climb Kala Patthar for close-up views of Everest and Ama Dablam
- Visit Tengboche Monastery and other Buddhist sites in the Khumbu
- Pass through Sherpa villages including Khumjung and Pangboche
- Walk through changing terrain from forest to high alpine landscape
- Partially guided, so some sections you cover with more independence
- Flights in and out of Lukla are weather-dependent, so build in spare days either side
- High-altitude trekking with real elevation gain — good fitness and acclimatisation matter
Worth it if you're fit enough for high altitude and want genuinely expert guides. Think twice if you need detailed altitude sickness prep before arrival.
- Guides (Mon, Diwas, Mann, Bhakta) adapt pace to individuals and wait without abandoning slower trekkers.
- Company handles logistical curveballs—helicopter substitutes for cancelled flights, schedule changes with no extra charge.
- Altitude sickness info isn't proactively provided; you must research symptoms and medicine independently beforehand.
- Early starts, rain days until 9:30pm finishes, and 100+ miles mean serious fitness required; scenery transforms daily.
