About this trip
Eighteen days across Egypt covering the full range from ancient monuments to desert and coast. You move between Cairo, a Nile cruise, Sharm El-Sheikh and a stretch of desert camping, so the pace and scenery shift a lot over the trip.
The core is Cairo and the Nile: the Pyramids and Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum, Memphis and Saqqara, then temples on both banks at Luxor and a three-night cruise down to Aswan taking in Edfu and Kom Ombo along the way.
After the history-heavy first half, the trip switches gear with three nights camping in the desert, a night at St Catherine and two nights by the Red Sea at Sharm El-Sheikh to unwind.
What you'll do
- See the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
- Explore ancient Egyptian artefacts at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo
- Visit the ruins of Memphis and the step pyramid at Saqqara
- Cruise the Nile from Aswan to Luxor, stopping at Edfu and Kom Ombo
- Explore Luxor's East and West Bank temples and tombs
- Camp three nights in the desert and spend a night at St Catherine
- Long and varied itinerary — expect city sightseeing, a river cruise, desert camping and beach time all in one trip
- Fully guided throughout, which suits those who'd rather not plan logistics across so many locations
- Pace changes significantly partway through, from packed sightseeing days to slower desert and coastal stretches
Cheapest live departure per day, in £, recorded by our tracker since 16 Jul. Never a brochure “was” price.
Worth it if you're fit, flexible and want Egypt's lesser-known spots. Think twice if you dislike long desert drives, basic camping, or need luxury comfort.
- Expert, passionate guides consistently named—Waleid, Gabriel, Ahmed, Mohamed—made history come alive throughout.
- Brutal long drives to reach sites: 11-hour Siwa to Bahariya stretch, midnight Mt Sinai start after 3-hour drive.
- White Desert camping is genuinely basic—no running water or facilities; one guide spoke no English on desert portion.
- Nile cruise ship is old and adequate, not luxury; Sharm hotel food uninspiring despite decent location and lodging elsewhere.
