About this trip
An 11-day expedition cruise from Ushuaia across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, aboard the USHUAIA. This is a solid first introduction to the continent, built around getting you off the ship and onto the ice as often as conditions allow.
Expect two zodiac landings most days, putting you among penguin colonies, seal haul-outs, and research stations rather than just viewing the coastline from deck. Whales, seabirds, and ice are a constant backdrop throughout.
It is a small-ship expedition rather than a polar cruise for sightseeing alone — the schedule bends to weather and wildlife, and the days are shaped by what the ice and sea allow.
What you'll do
- Cross the Drake Passage by ship
- Make zodiac landings at penguin colonies in the South Shetland Islands
- Visit active research stations and historic sites on the Peninsula
- Watch for whales, seals, and seabirds from ship and shore
- Cruise among icebergs and glaciers along the Antarctic Peninsula
- Landings depend on weather and ice conditions, so the daily plan can shift
- Two landings a day is typical, meaning early starts and time outdoors in cold conditions
- Private room option available if you'd rather not share a cabin
