About this trip
This is a mountain bike trip on Kilimanjaro, using the Kilema route, a 4x4 gravel road that runs parallel to the Marangu path and is normally used to supply Horombo hut and evacuate emergencies. You ride up towards Horombo hut, then turn around for a long, technical descent back down the mountain.
The trip doesn't stop at the mountain. It adds a mountain bike safari on the plains of West Kilimanjaro, swapping the climb for open, rideable landscape and a different pace altogether.
Expect a demanding week in the saddle rather than a scenic pedal — this is riding on rough gravel at altitude, with a serious drop back down as your reward.
