Canary Islands Walking - Gran Canaria

Start & end in Aguimes 8 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is a week of walking through the volcanic interior of Gran Canaria, well away from the resort coastline. You base yourself in Aguimes and the remote village of Aldea, using both as starting points for days out on foot through gorges, valleys and mountain trails.

Expect steep gorges, semi-tropical valleys and old cave dwellings, along with the island's best-known landmark, the Roque Nublo rock formation. The walking follows the caminos reales, the historic paths that cross the island's mountainous core.

Evenings bring Canarian food and sangria in small villages after long days on the trail, so there's a decent balance between effort and recovery.

What you'll do

  • Walk through the Guayadeque Canyon and its cave dwellings
  • Hike up to the Roque Nublo volcanic rock formation
  • Follow the historic caminos reales through Gran Canaria's mountainous interior

Good to know
  • This is a walking-focused trip with long days on foot through mountainous terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
  • You stay in two bases (Aguimes and Aldea) rather than moving location every night

  • Small village exploration and unique experiences like wine tasting by ocean elevate the trip beyond standard walking.
  • Reviews focus on walks and scenery but don't detail daily start times, distance, or altitude gain specifics.
