Cycle Morocco - Atlas to the Sahara

Start & end in Marrakesh 8 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is a cycling trip that takes you from the High Atlas Mountains down into the Sahara, covering some real distance and varied terrain along the way. Expect long days in the saddle through Berber villages, oases and remote desert landscape.

The route includes a proper mountain descent from the Tizi N'Fedrhate pass and a stretch through the Hamada Desert, before you swap bike for camel to ride into the dunes and camp overnight. It ends in Marrakech, giving you time to explore the medina and souks on foot.

It's a fully guided small-group tour with a local guide, built for people who want to cover ground actively rather than sightsee from a bus.

What you'll do

  • Descend the High Atlas pass at Tizi N'Fedrhate by bike
  • Cycle through the remote Hamada Desert
  • Ride a camel into the Sahara dunes and camp overnight under the stars
  • Pass through Berber villages, oases, kasbahs and medinas along the route
  • Explore the souks and streets of Marrakech
Good to know
  • Fast-paced — this is a cycling-focused trip with substantial daily distances
  • Rated moderate, but includes a demanding mountain descent so some fitness and cycling experience helps
  • One night is spent camping in the desert rather than in a hotel
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want stunning cycling through Morocco's varied landscapes with genuinely excellent guides. Think twice if you dislike long bus journeys and rough picnic spots.

  • Guides Hicham and Omar were attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely committed to your safety and cultural understanding.
  • Cycling highlights—Todra Gorge descent, Dra Valley, big climbs with gorge views—genuinely memorable and varied landscapes.
  • Excessive minibus time with 2-3 hour transfers between segments; picnic sites were rocky, sandy, with nowhere proper to sit.
  • Cycling notes from Explore had inaccurate ascent and descent details; cross-check before relying on them.
