About this trip
A 21-day route through all five Central Asian republics, covering mountain trails, desert cities and one very long high-speed train ride. The landscape shifts constantly, from turquoise alpine lakes to fertile valleys to dry desert plains, and so does the pace of life around you.
Along the way you walk through the Fann Mountains, trace the old Silk Road through Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand, and spend a night in a yurt on the shores of Lake Issyk Kul. It's a lot of ground and a lot of history, told through architecture, landscape and the odd night under canvas.
Note that from 2027 the tour runs in reverse, starting in Turkmenistan and finishing in Kyrgyzstan.
