About this trip
Twenty-six days across Central Asia, tracing the old Silk Road through a string of countries that most people couldn't point to on a map. Expect a mix of nomadic culture, Soviet-era cities, and landscapes that shift from high mountain lakes to desert.
You'll stay close to how people actually live here, bedding down in homestays and yurts rather than chain hotels. It's a slower, more grounded way to see a part of the world that gets very few visitors.
What you'll do
- Stay with nomadic families and sleep in a yurt at Song Köl
- See the sunken forest at Kaindy Lake
- Wander the bazaars, cathedrals and historical centres of the region's capitals
- Learn about nomadic traditions and daily life on the Central Asian steppe
- Long trip covering multiple countries, so travel days between stops are part of the deal
- Homestays and yurt stays mean fairly basic, simple accommodation for parts of the trip
- Fully guided throughout, in a private room setup
