About this trip
This is an eight-day climb of Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route, starting and ending in Moshi Town. Known as the Coca-Cola route, it is the oldest and most established path up the mountain, with a gradual, well-defined trail.
You sleep in dormitory-style huts rather than tents, which sets Marangu apart from the other routes. A guide leads you throughout, with meals, transport and hotel accommodation before and after the trek included.
The gentler gradient makes this a popular choice for first-time high-altitude trekkers, with good views of Mawenzi peak along the way and a shot at reaching Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's summit.
What you'll do
- Trek from Moshi Town through rainforest to Mandara Hut
- Walk the moorland stretch to Horombo Hut with views of Mawenzi
- Continue to Kibo Hut at the edge of the alpine desert
- Attempt the summit push to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point
- Descend back through the huts to Moshi with a guide throughout
- You stay in dormitory huts, not tents, despite the trip's camping listing
- The gradual slope makes this the easiest route on the mountain, but it's still a demanding high-altitude climb
- Fully guided throughout, with meals and transport included
