About this trip
This is an 11-day Kilimanjaro climb via the Lemosho Glades route, starting through the Shira Plateau on a path that sees far fewer groups than the standard trails. The route can connect to the Western Breach or drop into the Kibo South Circuit to join the Barafu path for the summit push.
Because the forest around the Lemosho glades holds real wildlife, groups here climb with an armed ranger, which says something about how remote and wild this stretch feels compared to the busier routes up the mountain.
Fully guided throughout, with camping en route and all accommodation and airport transfers included.
What you'll do
- Trek through the Shira Plateau via the Lemosho Glades path
- Walk with an armed ranger through wildlife-rich forest
- Option to tackle the Western Breach Route
- Join the Kibo South Circuit and Barafu route for the summit approach
- Camp out across the multi-day ascent
- A demanding high-altitude trek best suited to those with some hiking fitness and experience camping rough
- Slower, quieter route than the standard paths, with more days spent acclimatising
- Fully guided, so no need to arrange logistics on the mountain yourself
Worth it if you want a well-organised climb with genuinely experienced guides and proper kit. Think twice if you need solitude—the summit day is a long, tough push with crowds at the end.
- Guide quality stands out across all reviews; Yesse, Jackson, and Makuo consistently praised for leadership and crew organisation.
- Food and equipment notably better than expected; cook James and Philip mentioned specifically, hot meals at each camp.
- Summit day is brutal: midnight start, reach peak, back to Kibo Hut, then down to Horombo—15 hours straight with no sleep.
- Londorosi route stays quiet until Stella Point where you meet crowds from other routes; fewer people earlier means solitude mostly preserved.
