Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing - Lemosho Route

Moshi → Kilimanjaro 8 days Up to 14

About this trip

This is Kilimanjaro's Lemosho route, an 8-day climb built for people who already have some mountain experience and a solid level of fitness. It's designed so you reach the summit in daylight, which changes the rhythm of the climb compared to routes that push for a night summit.

The route takes you across the Shira Plateau and through the glades that give Lemosho its reputation as one of the more scenic approaches. You spend a night camped in the Kibo crater itself, then trek up to the top of the inner crater with views down into the Ash Pit.

The first day's drive to altitude is part of the experience in itself, running through open country with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru, and Longido before the trekking begins.

What you'll do

  • Cross the Shira Plateau on foot
  • Trek through the forest glades of the Lemosho route
  • Camp overnight inside the Kibo crater
  • Climb to the summit of the inner crater
  • See the Ash Pit up close
  • Drive to altitude on day one past views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru and Longido
Good to know
  • This route calls for genuine fitness and some prior mountain climbing skill, it's not a beginner's trek
  • Fully camping-based throughout
  • Structured for a daylight summit rather than the more common pre-dawn push
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want genuinely supportive guides and excellent value; no real downsides emerge from these reviews.

  • Guides like Walter and Roman provide constant education on Tanzanian culture, history, and wildlife throughout the climb.
  • Competitive pricing undercuts most competitors whilst delivering identical summit rates and higher-quality service than expected.
  • Porters and guides actively carry bags when struggling and motivate climbers through hardest stretches near the peak.
  • Frank proactively manages logistical issues like bank closures; administrative support extends beyond the mountain itself.
