Kilimanjaro climbing machame route

Start & end in Moshi 7 days Up to 20

About this trip

This is a six-night camping trek up Kilimanjaro via the Machame route, aiming for Uhuru Peak on Kibo, the highest of the mountain's three volcanic summits.

Kilimanjaro sits just south of the equator in northeastern Tanzania and is both the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain on earth, so this is a proper high-altitude trek rather than a casual walk.

You'll camp each night as you make your way up, with an optional extra day built in for acclimatisation — worth taking if your schedule allows, as it genuinely improves your odds of reaching the top.

What you'll do

  • Trek the Machame route up Kilimanjaro
  • Aim for the summit at Uhuru Peak on Kibo
  • Pass beneath the mountain's other two volcanic cones, Shira and Mawenzi
  • Camp out each night on the mountain
  • Option to add an extra acclimatisation day before the summit push
Good to know
  • This is a camping trek, not lodge-based — expect tents throughout
  • Altitude is the main challenge; taking the extra acclimatisation day is recommended if your schedule allows
  • Physically demanding and suited to travellers with a reasonable level of fitness
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a genuinely supportive, well-organised team who'll get you up the mountain. Think twice if you're a light sleeper—their tents aren't as stable as geodesic alternatives and collapse in wind.

  • Guides consistently motivate through tough moments, especially summit night, with humour and genuine care.
  • Food quality is shockingly good at altitude—fresh fruit, meat, variety daily. Chef manages this reliably.
  • Tents collapse in wind and fill with dust, causing sleepless nights before demanding summit day.
  • Pre-trip admin and airport logistics are solid; communication beforehand answers questions fully and quickly.
