About this trip
This is a 10-day climb of Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route, one of the quieter and more scenic ways up the mountain. You start through remote forest glades before climbing onto the Shira Plateau, away from the busier trails.
From there the route can continue toward the tougher western Breach or loop round via the Kibo south circuit to the more gradual Barafu route, giving you options depending on the group's pace and acclimatisation.
It's a camping expedition throughout, with the added detail that an armed ranger accompanies the group through the Lemosho forest, since wildlife roams that stretch of the mountain.
What you'll do
- Climb Kilimanjaro via the less-trodden Lemosho glades route
- Cross the Shira Plateau
- Option to tackle the western Breach route
- Alternative approach via the Kibo south circuit to Barafu
- Trek with an armed ranger through the Lemosho forest
- Camping throughout, so you'll need to be comfortable with multi-day expedition conditions
- Route choice (Breach or Barafu via Kibo) affects difficulty, so worth discussing with your guide before committing
- Suited to those wanting a quieter, less crowded ascent rather than the busiest Kilimanjaro trails
Worth it if you want expert guides who genuinely prioritize safety and summit success. Think twice if you expect an easy climb—the Lemosho Route has genuinely tough sections and altitude hits hard around Karanga Camp.
- Guides (Lema, Clinton, Martin, Suleiman) are experienced, attentive to altitude symptoms, and make deliberate pacing decisions that conserve strength early on.
- Food is freshly cooked daily by camp chefs, not tinned; tents are waterproof and spacious; equipment quality consistently praised across all reviews.
- The climb gets genuinely difficult by mid-route; by Karanga Camp most climbers reported struggling with altitude and fatigue.
- Porters and support crew (typically 9-11 staff for small groups) handle camps and logistics; the whole team dynamic matters as much as the lead guide.
