About this trip
Nine days on Kilimanjaro's Machame route, one of the mountain's tougher but more scenic paths to the summit. You climb through a real range of habitats — rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, glacial rock — rather than one long slog, which is part of why it's the most walked route on the mountain.
This is a proper trek, not a gentle stroll. The days are longer and steeper than the neighbouring Marangu route, and you'll want some hiking experience behind you before you sign up.
All accommodation and transport are included, and you camp on the mountain throughout the climb.

- Ascend through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and glacial terrain
- Spot monkeys in the forest zone on the lower slopes
- Pass lava towers and crater desert on the higher reaches
- Optional stop at Karanga Valley to acclimatise and improve summit chances
- Camp on the mountain for the full route
- Steeper and more demanding than the Marangu route — previous hiking experience recommended
- Four days up, two days down, with an optional extra night at Karanga Valley to ease the pace
- Accommodation is camping throughout
