About this trip
This is a self-drive motorbike tour through Lower Mustang, riding out from Kathmandu to Pokhara and up into the high, dry valleys beyond Jomsom. You're on your own bike for most of the week, working through the Kali Gandaki Gorge and into terrain that shifts from green hills to stark mountain desert.
The route takes you to Muktinath temple, with its 108 water spouts, and through Thakali villages like Marpha where you get a real sense of local life rather than just passing through. Along the way you're riding with Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri on the skyline.
It's a proper riding trip rather than a sightseeing tour with a bike attached — you need a licence, some off-road experience, and a tolerance for long days in the saddle.
What you'll do
- Ride Royal Enfield or similar motorbikes through the Kali Gandaki Gorge
- Visit Muktinath temple and bathe under its 108 water spouts
- Explore Marpha village and Thakali culture
- Soak in the hot springs at Tatopani
- Take in views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges
- Explore Pokhara, including Phewa Lake, Davis Falls and Sarangkot
- You need a valid international motorbike licence and genuine off-road riding experience — this isn't a beginner ride
- Best done March to May or October to December; January and February are cold, and the monsoon months (June to August) make the trails difficult
- Proper riding gear (helmet, boots, gloves, knee pads and similar) is expected, as some sections are off-road and conditions can be demanding
Worth it if you're a confident rider after a proper bike induction and keen on wild scenery. Think twice if you want guaranteed wildlife spotting or hardcore adventure activities.
- Guides Badri and Gopal genuinely knowledgeable, warm and exceptionally helpful throughout the trip.
- Bike riding demands real skill; off-road conditions and traffic aren't beginner-friendly territory.
- Wildlife spotting in Chitwan is luck-dependent; activities like rafting milder than comparable destinations.
- Motorbike scenery genuinely stunning, though night riding proves stressful and best avoided entirely.
