About this trip
This is a lodge-based trek into the Khumbu, following the classic Everest Trail from Lukla up towards the high viewpoint at Sangboche. Eleven days is enough to properly acclimatise, walk through Sherpa villages, and take in the Himalayas without rushing.
It starts with a small-plane flight from Kathmandu to the Lukla airstrip, dropping you straight into thin, clear mountain air and prayer-flag-strung villages. From there you walk, staying in lodges rather than tents, with a full day built in at Namche Bazaar to rest and explore.
Expect long views rather than a summit-bagging pace — sunrise over Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku from Sagarmatha National Park, and time to take in Tibetan Buddhist culture along the way.
What you'll do
- Fly from Kathmandu to the Lukla airstrip
- Trek up to the Sangboche viewpoint
- Spend a full day exploring Namche Bazaar
- Walk through Sherpa valleys and villages
- Watch sunrise over Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam from Sagarmatha National Park
- Lodge-based trek, not camping
- Private and fully guided, so pace can be adjusted to suit you
- Moderate difficulty at high altitude — good fitness and proper acclimatisation matter
Worth it if you're reasonably fit, book guides like Pasang or Nuru, and build in buffer days. Think twice if you need hand-holding with logistics or dislike high-altitude physical challenge.
- Guides (Pasang, Nuru, Nema) consistently go above and beyond—sorting logistics, checking welfare, fixing flight mishaps without complaint.
- Tea house food is genuinely good and fresh; accommodation feels homely, not basic; pre-trek coordination runs seamlessly.
- High altitude is genuinely challenging; weather delays happen (flights cancelled, stuck on mountain). Budget extra days before and after.
- Physical fitness matters seriously; most reviewers trained 3–5 months beforehand with weighted packs to manage the trek comfortably.
