About this trip
Seventeen days across China, starting in neon-lit Hong Kong and finishing in historical Beijing, with plenty of ground covered in between. Expect a mix of big-city energy, ancient sites, and quieter cultural traditions that don't usually make it onto shorter trips.
You'll try Chongqing's famous hot pot, ride the world's tallest outdoor elevator for views over Zhangjiajie's Avatar Mountains, and stand before the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. There's also a Great Wall hike at sunset and a stop to learn about Nvshu, the traditional script once used only by women.
This is a trip that leans into contrast — modern skylines one week, centuries-old customs the next — and covers real distance to do it.

- Transport: CHINA TRAIN TRAVEL SECURITY: When travelling by train in China you will need to pass through security checkpoints similar to those at airports. Please be aware that items that may be classified as ‘weapons’ might be confiscated (even from your suitcase), as all luggage travels in the compartment with you. We recommend leaving items that fall into this category (eg. pocket knives or scissors) at home. Aerosol spray bottles are not permitted on high-speed trains and can get confiscated at the station. - Accommodation: HOTEL ROOMS: Some travellers have reported that hotels/accommodation in this region tend to have harder bed mattresses than those they are used to at home.
