About this trip
Seven days through the Cusco region, taking in the city itself, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain. It's a fully guided sightseeing trip built around the region's best-known historical and natural sites.
You start in Cusco with visits to Sacsayhuaman and Qorikancha, then move into the Sacred Valley to see Maras and Moray before heading to Machu Picchu itself. The final days take you up to the high-altitude landscapes of Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain.
What you'll do
- Explore Cusco's Sacsayhuaman and Qorikancha ruins
- Visit the Sacred Valley's Maras salt pans and Moray terraces
- Tour the ruins of Machu Picchu with a guide
- Hike to the turquoise waters of Humantay Lake
- See the striped slopes of Rainbow Mountain
- Machu Picchu entry is via the classic Circuit 2 route where available; if it's full, you'll be offered Circuit 1 or 3 instead
- A private guide is required at Machu Picchu and comes at an extra cost
- Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain involve high-altitude walking, so expect a physically demanding day or two
Worth it if you're fit, prepared for altitude and cold, and want genuinely knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you need reliable heating and hot water in budget accommodation.
- Guides consistently knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about Peruvian history and culture.
- Cusco hotel rooms lack heaters and hot water despite signs claiming otherwise; came home sick.
- Hikes are physically exhausting and intense; genuinely challenging even for adventure travellers.
- Itinerary well-balanced with seamless logistics, daily updates, staff meeting you at train stations.
