About this trip
Five days through Australia's Top End, covering Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield National Parks from a Darwin start and finish. Expect long days outdoors, moving between wetlands, gorges and waterfalls with a guide who knows the country.
This is a trip built around water and rock — crocodile-spotting in the wetlands, ancient Aboriginal art on rock faces, and swimming in plunge pools and gorges as the days heat up. Camping is part of the deal, so you're close to the landscape throughout.
What you'll do
- Spot crocodiles and birdlife on a wetlands cruise
- View ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr and Burrungkuy
- Swim beneath Jim Jim and Maguk waterfalls
- Cruise the cliffs of Katherine Gorge
- Cool off in the plunge pools of Edith Falls
- See Litchfield's termite mounds and Florence and Wangi Falls
- Camping-based trip, so expect a simpler setup than hotel touring
- Involves hiking through monsoon forest and swimming, so some fitness helps
- Geared toward those who want nature and the outdoors over city time
