About this trip
A 10-day overland journey across the south of Australia, from Perth to Adelaide, sleeping in swags under the stars most nights. Expect long coach days broken up by beaches, national parks and the sheer scale of the Nullarbor Plain.
You'll swim at Esperance and Cape Le Grand, spot kangaroos on the sand, and cross one of the most remote stretches of road in the country before reaching the Bunda Cliffs. There's a learn-to-surf session, sandboarding, and chances to get involved in genuine conservation work along the way.
This is a camping trip at heart — campfires, swags and shared cooking are part of the experience, not an add-on. It suits travellers happy to rough it a bit in exchange for landscapes most people only see in photos.
What you'll do
- See the striped rock formations at Wave Rock
- Swim and explore the coastline around Esperance and Cape Le Grand National Park
- Cross the vast Nullarbor Plain and stand at the Bunda Cliffs
- Try surfing and sandboarding on the same trip
- Spot kangaroos at Lucky Bay and koalas among the gum trees
- Take part in hands-on conservation work
- You sleep in a swag under the stars for most of the trip, so this suits those comfortable with basic camping
- Long driving days are part of the route given the distances involved
- Swimming with wild sea lions and dolphins and the Coffin Bay oyster stop are optional extras at additional cost
Worth it if you love long drives, wildlife, beaches and guides who genuinely entertain. Think twice if you need predictable itineraries or dislike extended bus time.
- Guides consistently praised for cooking, local knowledge, and keeping morale high on long driving days.
- Swag camping under stars and activities like surfing lessons, sandboarding, and Aboriginal walks genuinely enjoyed.
- Crossing the Nullarbor means 9 days mostly on a small bus; one reviewer felt it wasn't worth the price.
- Guide consistency varies; one reviewer reported final days lacked structure when paired with an unfamiliar guide.
