About this trip
Five days in the Kathmandu Valley focused on its royal and religious history, taking in the three old Durbar Squares and the valley's major Hindu and Buddhist sites.
You'll spend time at temples and stupas rather than rushing between them, with a short hike out to Namobuddha giving you a break from the cities and a view of the Himalayas.
This suits travellers who want culture and history at the centre of the trip, with the mountain scenery as a bonus rather than the main event.
What you'll do
- Explore the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur
- Visit the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath, including the riverside cremation site
- See the Buddhist stupas of Swoyambhunath and Bouddhanath
- Hike roughly 2 hours to Namobuddha for Himalayan views
- Walk through Bhaktapur's old town, known for its medieval arts and architecture
- Lodging, transport, a tour guide and breakfast are included
- Involves a fair amount of walking, including one longer hike, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
- Centred on culture and history rather than trekking or adventure activities
Cheapest live departure per day, in £, recorded by our tracker since 16 Jul. Never a brochure “was” price.
Worth it if you want cultural immersion and short treks near Kathmandu with a responsive guide. Think twice if you need high-altitude adventure or time for Pokhara.
- Guide Matchindra was genuinely knowledgeable, flexible with last-minute changes, and made logistics seamless throughout.
- UNESCO heritage sites, short hiking, and cultural essence of Namobuddha and Dhulikhel delivered in five days.
- Five days isn't enough to reach beyond Kathmandu Valley; Pokhara and high-altitude treks require separate trips.
- Optional add-ons like Everest Mountain Flight incur extra costs; check what's included versus à la carte.
