About this trip
Thirteen days across Thailand, moving from the energy of Bangkok to the quieter history of Kanchanaburi, up to the cultural heart of Chiang Mai, and finishing with island time in Krabi. It's a trip that covers a lot of ground, giving you a real spread of what the country offers rather than just one region.
The middle stretch slows things down: Kanchanaburi's wartime history and the border town of Sangkhlaburi offer a calmer, more reflective pace before Chiang Mai's temples and an ethical elephant park. The back half hands you over to Krabi, where the plan is simply beaches, jungle, and open days to fill as you like.
Suits families, friends, or solo travellers happy with a mix of guided sightseeing and free time, and works well if you want one trip that touches history, culture, and coastline rather than committing to just one type of experience.
What you'll do
- Explore Bangkok's city sights and street life
- Visit the historic sites of Kanchanaburi and the bridge over the River Kwai
- Spend time in Sangkhlaburi on the Thailand-Myanmar border
- Visit Chiang Mai's temples and Elephant Rescue Park
- Relax on the white-sand beaches of Krabi
- Free time to explore Krabi's jungle and rainforest scenery
- Covers four distinct regions, so expect a fair amount of travel between stops
- Partially guided — some days are structured, others left free, particularly in Krabi
- Pace eases in the second half, with more time to simply relax on the coast
Worth it if you value guided experiences, responsive operators, and curated itineraries. Think twice if you dislike unstructured free days or expect consistently high-end accommodation.
- Guide quality consistently excellent—Gift, Giftsy, Sunshine, Ae named repeatedly for going genuinely above expectations.
- Elephant sanctuary, Bridge on River Kwai, Phi Phi snorkeling, and temple visits were trip highlights; well-organised sub-tours.
- Several days listed as 'free time' with minimal organised tours; some felt it was pricey for actual tour content.
- Accommodation quality variable—some rural hotels undershooting star ratings; Krabi beachfront properties strong by contrast.
