   Day 1 · ObanOban to Castlebay

   

   Arrive in Oban with time to spare before catching the 13:40 ferry to Castlebay. The crossing takes just under five hours, landing at 18:25. You'll overnight in Castlebay on the Isle of Barra.

   Day 2 · BarraVatersay - Eriskay - distance: 31km ascent: 315m

   Cycle from Castlebay to Vatersay to pick up the Hebridean Cycling Way at the obelisk. The route takes you over the causeway to Barra's scenic west coast and the Ardmhor ferry terminal, where you'll cross to Eriskay on a 40-minute ferry. Sleep at a B&B on Eriskay.

   Day 3 · EriskayEriskay to Benbecula distance: 53km ascent: 308m

   Leave Eriskay—whose name comes from Old Norse for 'Eric's Isle' and is famous for its hardy ponies—and cross the causeway to South Uist. Cycle south through white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water to Benbecula, the stepping stone between the two Uists. Overnight in Benbecula.

   Day 4 · BenbeculaBenbecula to Berneray distance: 50km ascent: 335m

   Pedal from Benbecula through North Uist's lochs and sandy beaches, then on to Berneray. This small island has about 130 residents but packs in a fascinating history, wildlife, and a pristine white sandy beach. Stay overnight on Berneray.

   Day 5 · Isle of HarrisBerneray to Tarbert (Isle of Harris) distance: 50km ascent: 1030m

   

   Ferry from Berneray to Leverburgh on the Sound of Harris for 80 minutes. Harris is steeped in tradition and offers striking scenery and tight-knit community life. Overnight in Tarbert.

   Day 6 · Isle of LewisTarbert to Callanish distance: 72km ascent: 20m

   

   Cycle through Lewis's hilly Lochs area to reach the Callanish Standing Stones. Take time to absorb these remarkable ancient stones. Overnight on the Isle of Lewis.

   Day 7 · Isle of LewisCallanish to Butt of Lewis distance: 47km ascent: 20m

   The toughest day sees you ride past the Callanish Standing Stones again, along Lewis's scenic west coast to the Butt of Lewis—about as far north as the Western Isles get. This is a spectacular endpoint. Stay overnight on Lewis.

   Day 8 · Isle of LewisLewis to Inverness distance: 50km ascent: 850m

   Cycle 28 miles to Stornoway in the early morning. Catch the 14:00 ferry across the Minch to Ullapool, arriving at 16:30; watch for whales and seabirds. A rep meets you at Ullapool and transfers you to Inverness for the night.

   Day 9 · InvernessDeparture

   Depart Inverness for home. You've completed the Hebridean Way.
