About this trip
A day out of Hanoi into Ninh Binh's limestone country, covering the old temples, a boat ride through the karst, and a hike up to a viewpoint over the rice paddies.
You start at Hoa Lu, the site of Vietnam's 10th-century capital, then head to Trang An for a sampan cruise through caves and narrow river channels. After a riverside lunch you climb the steps at Mua Cave for views over the valley before heading back to Hanoi.
It's a full day with a fair bit of movement — temples, boat, climb, lunch — but everything's arranged for you, with a guide and private transport throughout.
