About this trip

Sri Lanka's Central Highlands made UNESCO's World Heritage list for good reason — it's where the Peak Wilderness sanctuary, Knuckles Conservation Forest and Horton Plains National Park meet, all sitting above 2,500 metres.

Over six days you work through all three protected areas, walking through landscapes recognised as one of the world's genuine biodiversity hotspots.

This is a trip built around the mountains themselves — the terrain, the endemic species, the scale of it — rather than sightseeing from a coach.

What you'll do

  • Trek through the Knuckles Conservation Forest
  • Explore Horton Plains National Park
  • Walk sections of the Peak Wilderness sanctuary
  • Look out for endemic flora and fauna found only in these highlands
Good to know
  • Terrain sits above 2,500 metres, so expect a hiking-focused pace across all three reserves
  • Suits travellers who want mountains and wildlife over cities and beaches
