About this trip
This trip takes the classic Everest Base Camp trek and adds a genuine climb, up Island Peak at 6,189m, so you come away with more than just a trek under your belt.
You start in Kathmandu before flying into Lukla and following the Dudh Koshi valley up through Namche Bazaar and Tengboche to Base Camp itself, with the sunrise view from Kalapatthar as one of the high points along the way. From there the trip turns technical, with roped climbing and a guided summit push on Island Peak.
It suits people who already fancy the idea of mountaineering but haven't done a technical climb before — this is pitched as a first introduction to Himalayan climbing, built onto a trek you've probably heard of already.
What you'll do
- Trek the Tenzing-Hillary trail through the Dudh Koshi Valley to Namche Bazaar
- Visit the Sherpa Museum in Namche and Tengboche Monastery
- Reach Everest Base Camp and watch sunrise from Kalapatthar
- Climb Island Peak (6,189m) with guided technical support
- Explore Kathmandu's temples and bazaars at the start of the trip
- Rated challenging — this combines multi-day trekking with an actual roped climb, not just a walk to Base Camp
- You'll want some prior fitness and comfort at altitude before taking this on
- Trip length runs 18-20 days, so you need a decent chunk of time free
