About this trip

Five days across two of the USA's best-known national parks, built around the landscapes and wildlife rather than ticking off cities. Expect canyons, forests, rivers, geysers and hot springs, with time to actually stand in front of them.

Yellowstone brings the big geothermal sights and a decent shot at spotting wildlife, while the Grand Tetons side is more about the mountains themselves — hiking trails, lakes and that classic jagged skyline.

It's a partially guided trip with an optional hike built in, so there's room to push yourself physically or just take it at a more relaxed sightseeing pace.

What you'll do

  • See Old Faithful erupt and walk the boardwalks around Grand Prismatic Pool
  • Explore the terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs
  • Spend time at Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park
  • Look out for wildlife across Yellowstone's forests and valleys
  • Optional hike through the Tetons' mountain scenery
Good to know
  • Partially guided, with some sightseeing done independently
  • Includes an optional hike for those who want a more active day
  • Available over Christmas and New Year for those wanting to spend the holidays outdoors

  1. Arrive in Jackson Hole and check into your hotel, then head out for an evening wildlife safari through Grand Teton National Park from 4pm. Look for bison, moose, bald eagles, pronghorn, coyotes, mule deer and possibly bears as the light fades.

  2. GRAND TETON & YELLOWSTONE WILDLIFE — Jackson

Leave Jackson early to explore more of Grand Teton before entering Yellowstone National Park. 3. Start with the Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum in Cody, then drive the scenic Chief Joseph byway back into Yellowstone via the northeast entrance. Spend the afternoon and possibly evening wildlife viewing in Lamar Valley before staying overnight in Cooke City, Montana.

  4. Focus on Yellowstone's geothermal features: walk the boardwalks at Fountain Paint Pots and Mud Pots, then see Old Faithful Geyser and explore The Old Faithful Inn. Return through Grand Teton watching for wildlife and arrive back in Jackson between 4:30 and 6:30 PM.

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit for serious hiking and value a knowledgeable guide. Think twice if you prefer leisurely pacing or driving yourself.

  • Guide Rachel was genuinely knowledgeable, looked things up during downtime, and made the trip engaging throughout.
  • You'll see significantly more of both parks than self-driving, without navigation stress or planning headaches.
  • Expect substantial walking and hiking daily; not suitable if you prefer a more relaxed pace.
  • Group dynamics are strong here; meeting fellow travellers is genuinely part of the experience.
