About this trip

Seven days across North Sumatra, built around jungle, volcano and lake — a private itinerary so it moves at your own pace rather than a fixed group schedule.

The centrepiece is trekking in Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the few places left where you can see orang utans in the wild. From there it's on to the volcanic highlands and a stretch by the water to unwind.

What you'll do

  • Trek through Gunung Leuser National Park spotting wild orang utans
  • Climb Sibayak Volcano near Berastagi
  • Relax on the shores of Lake Toba, the world's largest crater lake
Good to know
  • Private tour, so departure dates and daily pace can flex around you
  • Involves genuine trekking and a volcano climb — expect some sustained walking, not just sightseeing
  • Rated moderate, suited to families and those comfortable with a few active days

  1. Medan / Bukit Lawang — Medan

Your driver meets you at Kuala Namu International Airport and drives you 4 hours to Bukit Lawang, passing rubber and palm oil plantations, jungle and mountains. Stop whenever you like for photos or lunch; your driver helps with any language barriers.

  3. After breakfast and a river swim, you either trek for 2 more hours or visit a waterfall to swim. Lunch at camp, then return via traditional jungle raft. The afternoon is free.
