About this trip
Eight days of walking across Crete, from mountain trails to gorge crossings to quiet stretches of coast. It's built around getting out on foot each day, then winding down with proper Greek food in local tavernas.
Highlights include the White Mountains and the Samaria and Rouvas Gorges, with routes that take in isolated beaches and coves you wouldn't easily reach otherwise. There's a rhythm to it: walk, arrive, eat well, repeat.
This is a group trip, so you're sharing the trails and the tavernas with the same set of people throughout, and there's a genuine effort to connect with local life along the way rather than just pass through it.
What you'll do
- Hike through Samaria Gorge, one of Europe's longest
- Walk trails through the White Mountains
- Cross Rouvas Gorge on foot
- Take a boat trip to the remote fishing village of Loutro
- Reach isolated beaches and secluded coves on foot
- Eat in local tavernas and meet Cretan hosts along the way
- Expect proper walking and hiking most days, so some fitness and decent boots matter
- A mix of mountain, gorge and coastal terrain rather than one type of walk
Worth it if you want varied, gorgeous walks (gorges, coast, mountains) with genuinely excellent local guides. Think twice if you need precise pre-trip info on distances and difficulty levels.
- Guide quality is standout—Panos and Peter made the trip through knowledge, care, and local restaurant picks.
- Walk variety is genuine: gorges, coastline, mountains, and secluded harbours by boat taxi feel genuinely different daily.
- Distance and difficulty info provided pre-trip was vague; several walkers wanted clearer expectations beforehand.
- Group size of 11 worked well; gorge walks happened despite rain, and Samaria's closure didn't derail enjoyment.
