About this trip

This trip runs through four of Greece's best known ancient sites over eight days, taking in Athens, Delphi, Olympia, and Meteora.

It's set up as a partially guided small-group trip, with a relaxed pace that leaves room to take each place in rather than rushing between them.

With Christmas and New Year departures and a family-friendly style, it suits travellers who want the history without a packed, high-intensity schedule.

What you'll do

  • Explore ancient Athens
  • Visit the ruins at Delphi
  • See the site of the original Olympic Games at Olympia
  • Take in the monasteries of Meteora
Good to know
  • Between November and March, the Athens guided tour is replaced with a 48-hour ticket for the hop-on hop-off tourist bus rather than an escorted tour

  1. ATHENS - CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION — Athens

You'll be transferred to your hotel in Athens with an English-speaking assistant. In the afternoon, a representative briefs you on the trip and Athens itself, then the rest of the day is yours to explore the city at your own pace.

  2. Drive to the Corinth Canal for photos of this engineering feat connecting two seas, then visit the Theater of Epidaurus—still used for performances and famous for its acoustics—and its Archaeological Museum. You'll also stop at Mycenae before reaching Olympia.

  3. Explore the ancient Olympic stadium where games began around 776 BC, learn how the Olympiad marked time across Greece, and see the sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. Visit the Museum of Olympia before heading towards Delphi.

  4. FROM THE ORACLE TO METEORA, KALAMBAKA — Metéora

Visit Delphi, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the Oracle once advised kings, and see the Bronze Charioteer in the Archaeological Museum. Descend Mount Parnassus into the Thessaly plains, arriving in Kalambaka for dinner and rest.

  5. Visit Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring six active monasteries perched on massive rocks. Note the dress code—no sleeveless tops or shorts above the knee; wraps are provided at entrances. Stop briefly at Thermopylae on the return to Athens.

  6. After a leisurely morning, meet your assistant at Syntagma Square at 15:40 to watch the Changing of the Guards at the Hellenic Parliament. Then tour Athens by panoramic vehicle, seeing the Athenian Trilogy, Panathenaic Stadium, Zappeion, and Temple of Olympian Zeus.

  7. You have a free day to explore Athens independently, or opt for an optional full-day cruise to Aegina, Poros, and Hydra in the Saronic Gulf, with transfers to the port included.

  8. A driver transfers you to Athens International Airport for check-in and departure. On the way, you can arrange tax-free shopping for gifts like flokati rugs, sandals, embroidered covers, or Greek honey and olive oil.
