About this trip

Nine days that take in mainland Greece and two of the Cyclades islands, mixing ancient history with island time. You cover Athens, the oracle site at Delphi, the clifftop monasteries of Meteora, then hop across to Mykonos and Santorini.

It's a broad sweep of the country in one go — ruins and religious history first, beach and sunset time after. Suits a group setting and a relaxing pace rather than a packed, guide-led schedule throughout.

What you'll do

  • Explore Athens
  • Visit the ancient site of Delphi
  • See the monasteries of Meteora
  • Spend time on Mykonos
  • Spend time on Santorini
Good to know
  • Partially guided — some sections are on your own rather than led throughout
  • Pitched as relaxing rather than fast-paced, despite covering a lot of ground
  • Suits families and groups, including over Christmas and New Year departures

  1. ATHENS - CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION — Athens

You'll be collected from Athens airport and driven to your hotel by an English-speaking assistant. After settling in, there's a briefing at the hotel covering trip logistics and insights into the city's daily life. The rest of the day is yours to explore Athens at your own pace.

  2. A guided panoramic tour of Athens' Neoclassical Center takes in the Parliament building, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, University of Athens, National Library, National Academy, Ilion Palace, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Gate, and Panathenaic Stadium. Your English-speaking guide shares the history and stories behind each landmark.

  3. FROM ATHENS TO THE ORACLE OF DELPHI & METEORA, KALAMBAKA — Delphi

After breakfast, you'll visit Delphi, the UNESCO-listed oracle site where kings and pilgrims once sought counsel. The museum holds the Bronze Charioteer, a masterpiece of Greek sculpture. You then drive towards Kalambaka across the plains of Thessaly, with time to explore the town's old picturesque district.

  4. Early morning visit to Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring six active monasteries perched atop massive rock formations. Five serve male monastic communities, one female. Note the dress code: no sleeveless tops or shorts above the knee; wraps and trousers are provided. There's a stop at Thermopylae on the return to Athens.

  5. FROM ATHENS TO MYKONOS - NAVIGATING AS ODYSSEUS — Mykonos

Transfer to Piraeus port for a ferry to Mykonos across the Aegean Sea. You'll arrive on this cosmopolitan island named after the heroic son of King Anius of Delos. An English-speaking representative meets you, arranges your hotel transfer, and introduces you to the island's charms.

  6. Free day to explore Mykonos at your own pace, known for its beaches, shops, and nightlife. The island offers Mediterranean cuisine with fresh vegetables, olive oil, and aromatic spices, plus fresh fish and seafood. Consider a short ferry to nearby Delos, the legendary birthplace of Apollo and Artemis in Greek mythology.

  7. FROM MYKONOS TO MAGICAL SANTORINI — Mykonos

After breakfast, you're picked up and driven to the port for the ferry to Santorini. On arrival, an English-speaking representative welcomes you and escorts you to your hotel, sharing insights about the island. Spend the afternoon wandering Fira's charming narrow streets and white clifftop houses overlooking the volcano.

  8. Free day to explore Santorini at your own pace. Optionally, take a sailboat tour around the Caldera visiting Nea and Palea Kameni islands with their hot springs. The source recommends tasting local wine, tomato keftedes, fava dishes, and Chloro cheese, or simply wandering the island independently.

  9. Transfer to Santorini Airport for your return flight to Athens, timed to connect with your international departure after 12:30 PM. The trip concludes with well-wishes for your journey home. You can optionally extend your stay in Santorini by adding extra nights.
