About this trip
This 13-day route runs the length of Patagonia, from the lake district around Bariloche down to Ushuaia at the tip of the continent. It's self-guided throughout, so you move between bases by bus and on foot, with the freedom to set your own pace on the trails.
You start among the forests and turquoise water of Nahuel Huapi National Park, then head south across the Patagonian steppe to El Chalten for hiking beneath the Fitz Roy massif. From there it's on to El Calafate for the Perito Moreno Glacier, a crossing into Chile for Torres del Paine, and finally down to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.
Expect long bus days linking dramatic, very different landscapes — glacial lakes, granite spires, steppe, and the end-of-the-world coastline — with the hiking and sightseeing done independently rather than as part of a guided group.
