Langtang Valley Trek

Langtang Valley is the closest trekking region to Kathmandu, and this 10-day trip takes you into it on foot, walking through pine forests and past Tamang and Tibetan villages up to the glacial valley beneath Langtang Lirung.

You drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and then walk north through Langtang National Park, staying in teahouses and gaining height gradually until you reach Kyanjin Gompa, an old monastery settlement that's your base for the highest point of the trek.

Days involve around 5-6 hours of walking, with mountain views building steadily rather than one big reveal at the end. It's guided throughout and pitched as achievable without prior trekking experience, provided you turn up reasonably fit.

What you'll do

• Walk through Langtang National Park from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel and beyond
• Visit Kyanjin Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in the valley
• Climb Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) for views over the Langtang and Jugal ranges
• Spot Tamang and Tibetan village life along the trail
• See Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak and Ganesh Himal from the trail
• Option to detour to Gosainkunda Lake or Helambu Valley
