About this trip
This trek takes you into one of the least-visited corners of Nepal, following the Annapurna Circuit as far as Koto before branching off into the remote Nar Phu valley, a landscape that feels more Tibetan plateau than Himalayan foothill.
You'll walk through villages that have kept their medieval Tibetan character largely intact, visit the Tashi Lakhang Monastery, and cross two high passes — Kang La at 5315m and Thorong La at 5416m, the highest point on the Annapurna Circuit.
The route ends by descending to lower Mustang and Muktinath before flights out via Jomsom and Pokhara to Kathmandu, giving you a real mix of high alpine wilderness, cultural depth, and classic Annapurna scenery.
What you'll do
- Follow remote trails into the Nar Phu valley beyond Koto
- Visit Tashi Lakhang Monastery and villages of medieval Tibetan character
- Cross Kang La pass (5315m) between Nar and the Neyshang valley
- Cross Thorong La pass (5416m), the highest point on the Annapurna Circuit
- Take in views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Himlung Himal and Tilicho Peak
- Descend through Muktinath and Jomsom before flying to Pokhara and Kathmandu
- Involves two high passes over 5300m, so this suits trekkers with some high-altitude experience or a solid level of fitness
- A fully guided trip that can be run privately, so pace can be tailored to your group
Worth it if you're fit, flexible on dates, and book 13-14 days minimum. Think twice if you need reliable wifi, predictable road access, or can't tolerate uncertain water quality.
- Guides are genuinely knowledgeable and kind; owner arranges personal city tours and home dinners.
- Tap water is unsafe to drink; February trips risk pass closure and minimal washing facilities.
- Nine days is too tight; weather damage to access roads can steal two days, leaving no buffer for illness or acclimatisation.
- Wifi and electricity absent over half the trek; first two trekking days involve steep altitude gain unsuitable for unacclimatised walkers.
