About this trip
Five days across central Laos, moving by train from Vientiane through Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, taking in temples, caves and limestone scenery along the way.
You start in the capital, Vientiane, before heading by express train to Vang Vieng, where dramatic karst cliffs surround the Blue Lagoon and Tham Chang Cave. From there the train continues to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO-listed town of temples and old French-Lao architecture.
The pace stays gentle and culture-focused, with time for the Pak Ou Caves, sunset views from Mount Phousi, an early-morning almsgiving ceremony and an evening at the night markets.
