About this trip
Ten days through Laos, starting in Vientiane and finishing at the border crossing into Chiang Mai, Thailand. The route takes in karst landscapes, riverside caves, waterfalls and hill-tribe towns, moving north by train and road as you go.
Expect a mix of city time in Luang Prabang, quieter stops in Muang La and Muong Sing, and plenty of scenery along the way, including a couple of scenic train journeys between towns.

- Ride the express train from Vientiane to Vang Vieng through karst scenery
- Explore temples, markets and colonial architecture in Luang Prabang
- Visit the Buddhist statues and carvings inside Pak Ou Caves on the Mekong
- Swim and trek at Kuangsi Waterfalls
- Spend time in the local community at Muang La
- Visit hill tribe communities around remote Muong Sing
- Covers a lot of ground, with several train and road transfers between towns
- Ends at the Thai border crossing to Chiang Mai rather than in a city centre
- Mixes city sightseeing with quieter, more remote stops
