About this trip
This is a Machame Route ascent of Kilimanjaro, camping under canvas as you climb through changing landscapes toward the summit. Machame has become the most popular route up the mountain, and many guides rate it the most rewarding, even though it's longer and tougher going than the alternatives.
That extra length works in your favour: the route builds in more time to acclimatize, including a dedicated day in the Karanga Valley, which is a big part of why success rates here tend to run higher than on shorter trails.
This is a private departure, so it suits families or a group travelling together rather than joining strangers on the mountain.
What you'll do
- Trek the Machame Route, widely rated one of Kilimanjaro's most enjoyable trails
- Spend an acclimatization day in the Karanga Valley to help your body adjust
- Push for the summit via the Barafu Route
- Option to take the Western Breach/Arrow Glacier route to the top
- Machame is longer and more physically demanding than the Marangu Route, but the extra days improve your chances of reaching the summit
- This is a private trip, suited to families or groups travelling together
- Expect to camp throughout, not stay in huts
Worth it if you want guides who genuinely care about your safety and summit success. Think twice if you need budget accommodation or prefer smaller, quieter groups.
- Guides like Epa, Joel, Emanuel, Philip and Kileo are exceptionally attentive to altitude sickness and physical condition on summit night.
- Porters and cook deliver hot, quality meals even at high altitude; team handles all logistics, permits and transfers seamlessly.
- Seven days is genuinely intense; summit night is described as tough and requires serious mental resilience from climbers.
- Migration Venture Africa's service quality is consistent across multiple reviews, suggesting reliable standards rather than occasional luck.
