Luxury Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes via Ait Ben Haddou & Merzouga

Marrakesh → Fes 3 days Up to 6

About this trip

Three days on the road between Marrakech and Fes, with the Sahara as the centrepiece. You cross the High Atlas Mountains, stop at old kasbahs, and end up camping under the stars near the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

The route takes in Ait Ben Haddou, the Valley of 1001 Kasbahs, and the Todra Gorge before the camel trek out to the desert camp. Expect a Berber dinner, campfire music, and both sunset and sunrise over the sand.

From the desert you head on through the Ziz Valley's palm groves and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas to finish in Fes, so this works as a one-way transfer between the two cities rather than a loop back to Marrakech.

What you'll do

  • Cross the High Atlas Mountains by road
  • Visit the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Walk through the Todra Gorge
  • Camel trek into the dunes of Erg Chebbi
  • Overnight in a Sahara desert camp with Berber dinner and music
  • Drive through the Ziz Valley palm groves and Middle Atlas cedar forests
Good to know
  • This is a one-way route ending in Fes, not a Marrakech round trip
  • One night is spent in a desert camp rather than a hotel
  • Fast-paced for three days — long driving stretches between the highlights
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value knowledgeable, warm guides and dramatic desert scenery. Think twice if you need reliable last-minute communication or prefer minimal driving days.

  • Guides consistently praised as knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely helpful; several reviewers called them trip highlights.
  • Operator communicates pick-up details at the last minute; one group was not collected on the agreed date and day, causing cascading costs.
  • Expect 10+ hours driving on day three to Fes and significant daily driving; AC minibus mitigates but not for everyone.
  • Desert nights are genuinely cold; standard tents insufficient unless you upgrade or visit outside summer months.
