About this trip
Ten days across Uganda's national parks, built around close encounters with the country's headline wildlife — mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, lions and rhinos. This is a private tour, so it's just your group moving through the parks and countryside at your own pace.
Expect a mix of trekking on foot, game drives by vehicle, and boat rides on the water, with stretches of road travel between destinations linking it all together.
There's also time built in to meet local communities along the way, through village walks and everyday encounters rather than staged visits.
What you'll do
- Track mountain gorillas on foot in their forest habitat
- Go on game drives spotting a wide range of species, including rare and endangered ones
- Join a lion tracking outing in Queen Elizabeth National Park
- Take part in a chimpanzee tracking expedition
- Track rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
- Take boat rides in search of water-adapted wildlife
- Private tour — just your own group, not joined with strangers
- Involves long road journeys between parks, so travel days are part of the experience
- Run by an operator that welcomes travellers who are hard of hearing or have mobility disabilities
Worth it if you want gorilla trekking with genuinely excellent guides and seamless organisation. Think twice if you're unfit—the trek is harder than expected.
- Guides Bridget and John are exceptionally knowledgeable, safe, wildlife-spotting wizards who become proper friends.
- Owner Richard personally collects you from airport, drives nine hours to replace lost luggage, tailors itineraries without fuss.
- Gorilla trek is genuinely hard; train beforehand and hire a porter despite thinking you don't need one.
- Accommodation mixes hotels and safari tents with private bathrooms; all meals included but drinks cost extra.
