About this trip
This is a full circuit around the Annapurna massif, around 205-210km on foot, taking you from subtropical valleys up over a 5,416m pass and back down again. It's a proper long-distance trek, not a short taster, and the altitude and daily walking demand real fitness.
You move through Gurung, Manangi and Thakali villages, watching the landscape shift from terraced valleys to high alpine desert as you gain height day by day. The Manang Valley acclimatisation stop and the Thorong La crossing are the physical and emotional core of the trip.
After the pass, the trek eases through Muktinath's pilgrimage sites, the hot springs at Tatopani, and a dawn climb to Poon Hill before you wind down in Pokhara by the lake.
What you'll do
- Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani through hillside villages and river valleys
- Trek through Chame, Pisang and Ngawal with Himalayan views underfoot
- Acclimatise in Manang before pushing on through Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi
- Cross the Thorong La Pass at 5,416m with views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu
- Soak in the natural hot springs at Tatopani
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill
- This is a serious high-altitude trek — expect long consecutive walking days and a demanding pass crossing at over 5,400m
- Partially guided, so some sections rely on your own navigation and pace within the group
- Acclimatisation days are built in, but prior trekking fitness will make the Thorong La crossing far more manageable
Worth it if you want a genuinely well-organised trek with standout guides who actually care. Think twice if you need hot showers at altitude or prefer larger group dynamics.
- Guides like Bhisma and Indra are genuinely knowledgeable, warm, and go out of their way to adjust pacing and itinerary to group needs.
- Guesthouses have en-suite toilets throughout, including at Thorong Base Camp; solar and gas showers available most nights—better than expected.
- Hot water unreliable at higher elevations; Thorong Base Camp had no shower at all despite being the coldest night.
- A la carte meals and fresh fruit plates included; bring your own tea bags to save on hot drinks if you want hot beverages nightly.
