About this trip
Six days travelling from Perth through Western Australia's South West, sleeping in swags under open skies and moving between national parks, coastline and forest. This is a small-group, guide-led trip built around getting outside rather than ticking off towns.
You'll cover a lot of ground — from the strange rock formations of Wave Rock to the white sand of Lucky Bay, the ridgelines of Fitzgerald River National Park and the towering karri forests near Margaret River. There's a cultural element too, with time built in to connect with Traditional Owners through the Dabungool experience.
Expect early starts, real hiking, basic camp setups and a finish among the vineyards and produce of Margaret River — a contrast to the wild coast and bush that comes before it.
What you'll do
- Hike East Mount Barren for coastal views over Fitzgerald River National Park
- Walk the white sand of Lucky Bay
- Take part in the Dabungool Cultural Experience with Traditional Owners
- See the striped rock formations at Wave Rock
- Climb Frenchman Peak
- Climb into the canopy on the Bicentennial Tree in the karri forest
- Swag camping — you sleep under the stars in nature-based camps, not hotels
- Involves genuine hiking and scrambling, including climbs up Frenchman Peak and East Mount Barren
- Long travel days moving between coast, forest and national parks
Worth it if you want genuine adventure with standout guides and international group bonding. Think twice if unpredictable weather or two nights of alternative accommodation concern you.
- Guides like Rachel and Brooke are genuinely exceptional cooks, funny, capable, and make groups bond across language barriers.
- Swag camping is surprisingly comfortable; scenery includes spectacular beaches, mountains, sunrises, and wildlife worth the early starts.
- Weather isn't guaranteed and two nights you'll camp elsewhere, not in your swag, due to conditions or logistics.
- Company handles emergencies well with responsive communication and insurance paperwork, though trip cancellation insurance wise.
