About this trip
This is a six-day climb of Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route, often nicknamed the Coca-Cola route for its steady, gradual ascent. You sleep in mountain huts with running water rather than tents, which makes it a good fit if you'd rather not camp.
The path takes you up through forest and moorland, past the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, before the final push to Uhuru Peak, the summit and the highest point on the continent.
Guides lead the trek throughout, and the gentler gradient compared to other routes is designed to give your body more time to adjust to the altitude.
What you'll do
- Trek the Marangu (Coca-Cola) route to Uhuru Peak
- Sleep in mountain huts with running water rather than tents
- Walk through forest, moorland and alpine terrain as altitude increases
- Pass close to the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks
- Summit Africa's highest point
- The gradual ascent is meant to help with acclimatisation, but reaching the summit is still a serious physical challenge
- Hut accommodation suits those who'd rather not camp on the mountain
