About this trip

This 13-day journey traces a route from Karachi across Sindh and Punjab to Peshawar, taking in the country's Sufi heritage, desert forts, and some of the oldest urban ruins on earth.

You start in Karachi before heading through Sindh to the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro and the Cholistan Desert, then on to Multan, Lahore, Islamabad, Taxila and Peshawar. It's a wide sweep of Pakistan's history, from Indus Valley archaeology through Mughal, Sikh and British-era layers to the present day.

This is a private, fully guided trip, so the pace and focus can flex around you, and it works well for families or those travelling over Christmas and New Year who want a guided introduction to Pakistan rather than a backpacker route.

  1. You'll be met at Karachi airport and transferred to your hotel for a briefing on what's ahead. The rest of the day is yours to recover from travel, though if you've arrived in the morning, you can explore the city instead.

  2. Start with breakfast then visit Mazar-e-Quaid, Frere Hall, and Empress Market. Continue to Mohatta Palace and the National Museum of Pakistan to learn the country's history. The evening takes you to Clifton Beach to watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea before dinner.

  3. After breakfast, drive toward Hyderabad stopping at Chaukandi Tombs, Banbhore Museum, and the Banbhore Heritage Site. Visit Makli Hill (UNESCO site) and the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, arriving in Hyderabad by evening.

  4. Drive northwest through Sindh toward Sehwan, stopping at the shrines of Sufi saint Abdul Latif Bhittai. Next is Ranikot Fort before Sehwan. At sunset, head to the Shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar to see the Sufi Dhammal devotional dance, then dinner and overnight.

  5. Sehwan to Mohan Jo Daro to Sukkur — Sehwan

    After breakfast, drive toward Larkana and visit Mohenjo-daro, a UNESCO site from the 19th century BC and one of the largest Indus Valley settlements. Explore the Mohenjo-daro Museum's artifacts before continuing to Sukkur for overnight.

  6. Sukkur to Fort Darawar to Bahawalpur — Bahawalpur

    Begin at the Seven Sisters Shrine near the Indus River, then move to Uch Sharif to explore its revered shrines blending Islamic and local styles. Visit Derawar Fort in the Cholistan Desert with its dramatic walls and views, finishing in Bahawalpur for the evening.

  7. Bahawalpur to Multan — Bahawalpur

    Start with Bahawalpur's historic sites including Noor Mahal and Farid Gate's lively market. Head to Multan, the City of the Sufis on the Chenab River, visiting Sufi shrines like Shah Rukn-i-Alam, Bahauddin Zakariya, and Shams Tabrez, then explore the Old Bazaar.

  8. Multan to Lahore — Multan

    Travel from Multan to Harappa, the Bronze Age walled city of the Indus Civilization. Continue to Lahore, Punjab's cultural hub, for a dive into the historical and religious legacies of the Mughal, Sikh, and British Empires.

  9. Explore Lahore's cultural legacy including the Lahore Museum, Lahore Fort, the Old City, and the Badshahi Mosque. Also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Shalimar Bagh.

  10. Travel to the Katas Raj Complex of Hindu religious significance, then visit the Kewra Salt Mines. Continue to Islamabad, a modern city, then head north to the ancient city of Taxila.

  11. Travel to Peshawar, the historical city of storytellers. Visit the Peshawar Museum, Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Mahabat Khan Mosque, Sethi House, and the Khyber Pass (subject to government NOC).

  12. Return to Islamabad for your departure.

  13. Explore Islamabad's landmarks including the Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh Viewpoint, Pakistan Monument & Museum, Shakarparian Hills, and Lok Virsa Museum. The tour concludes here.
