About this trip
Thirteen days in the Annapurna region, walking from the low foothills up through a river gorge into the mountain amphitheatre at Annapurna Base Camp. The trail climbs gradually, giving your body time to adjust as the peaks close in around you.
Days start early for the best of the light, with sunrise over the Annapurna massif a regular reward for the effort. Villages along the way offer a look at local mountain culture, and Kathmandu itself adds a dose of history and temples either side of the trek.
This is a proper trek rather than a stroll, so expect long walking days and changing altitude, balanced by the payoff of standing in the base camp bowl itself.
What you'll do
- Trek through the river gorge into the Annapurna Sanctuary
- Reach Annapurna Base Camp beneath the surrounding peaks
- Watch sunrise over the Himalayas from the trail
- Pass through traditional mountain villages en route
- Explore Kathmandu's cultural and historic sites
- Partially guided, so some sections are walked with more independence
- Involves sustained daily hiking and altitude gain, best suited to those with reasonable fitness
- Suitable for family groups as well as solo or group travellers
Worth it if you want authentic village access and attentive guiding. Think twice if you need guaranteed good weather or dislike early starts on steep terrain.
- Guides like Saroj actively adjust plans for weather and prioritise your comfort, food and rest throughout.
- Local guides take you off-trail to villagers' homes for genuine food and drink experiences, not tourist versions.
- Weather changes the trek substantially; reviews suggest flexibility matters more than fixed itineraries here.
- Mountain views, alpine flowers and cultural immersion are the real draw, not luxury accommodation.
