About this trip

A classic trek to the foot of the world's highest mountain, with Sherpa guides leading you through the Khumbu over 12 days. Built-in acclimatisation days mean the pace respects the altitude rather than fighting it.

You walk through Sherpa villages, rhododendron forest and high alpine terrain inside Sagarmatha National Park, with Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam in view on clear days. It's a proper trek — long days on foot, simple teahouse stops, and a genuine sense of arrival when you reach Base Camp itself.

Good for both first-time Himalayan trekkers and more experienced hikers, since the itinerary is built around safe acclimatisation rather than raw speed.

  1. Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla on a 40-minute mountain flight—views are stunning in clear weather, bumpy if not. Meet your crew in Lukla, have tea, then trek 3-4 hours to Phakding (2,652m). Sleep at a teahouse.

  2. Hike from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11,280 ft): 5 - 6 hrs — Phakding

    Trek 5-6 hours on relatively easy terrain to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), crossing suspension bridges through Benkar and Manjo. You'll cross into Sagarmatha National Park, spot Thamserku and Kusum Kangaru, and possibly catch your first glimpse of Everest before reaching the clustered town. Teahouse overnight.

  3. Acclimatization day. Hike to Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Amadablam, Thamserku, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Tabuche, then wander back past the Everest Museum and through Namche's busy streets. Teahouse overnight.

  4. Trek 5-6 hours through lush green forests with yaks carrying goods, mixing flat, downhill and uphill walking to Tengboche (3,870m). The Khumbu Valley opens up with Amadablam dominating the backdrop. Walk around the monastery in the evening. Teahouse overnight.

  5. Trek 5-6 hours through picturesque rivers, forests and hilly landscape to Dingboche (4,360m), passing Pangboche and Somare en route. The valley sits between Nagarshan hill, Chhukung Valley and Amadablam. Teahouse overnight.

  6. Acclimatization day before going higher. Hike Nagarshan Hill (5,100m) or explore Chhukung Valley, then return to the teahouse. Stroll around Dingboche, the last large village on the route. Teahouse overnight.

  7. Trek 2-4 hours uphill to Lobuche (4,940m) through grassy meadows and sparse bushes. The highlight is the Everest Memorial at Thukla Pass and views of Pumori, Lobuche and Cholatse. Lobuche is a small, quiet village on a river facing Kong Ma La Pass. Teahouse overnight.

  8. Lobuche - Gorak Shep [5170 m/16,961ft]-Everest Base Camp [5364 m/17,594 ft]-Gorak Shep: 8 - 9 hrs — Lobuche

    Climb Lobuche Pass, walk through rugged moraine terrain to Gorak Shep (5,170m), drop your bag, then trek 1.5 hours to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Take photos, then return to Gorak Shep for the night. Total 8-9 hours. Teahouse overnight.

  9. Gorak Shep - Kala Patthar - Pheriche [4280 m/14,070 ft]: 8 - 9 hrs — Kala Pattar

    Climb Kala Pathar before sunrise to see sun rays hit the mountains, then trek downhill 8-9 hours through Gorak Shep, Lobuche and Thukla to Pheriche (4,280m). Teahouse overnight.

  10. Retrace your route downhill 5-6 hours through Pangboche, Tengboche and back to Namche Bazaar (3,440m). The descent offers different perspectives on the landscape you climbed. Teahouse overnight.

  11. Trek downhill 5-6 hours through Manjo and Phakding to Lukla (2,800m). Celebrate your trek with crew and fellow trekkers over Nepalese food and drink. This is your last evening in the Khumbu region. Teahouse overnight.

  12. Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Debrief with your crew on the trip's events and experiences. Your trek ends here.
